| What
footwear should I wear?
This is entirely your choice. Comfort is the main priority
but we would add that in previous years the going has been
mud, mud and more mud. Most walkers wear walking boots with
gaiters or wellingtons; runners preferring trainers or boots.
What if the weather is bad?
The event is never cancelled (someone has to eat the mountain
of cakes we have baked!). Please come prepared to walk whatever
the weather.
How will I know that you have received
my Entry Form?
For confirmation
of your entry, visit the list of entrants posted on the
website. Press the refresh screen button to ensure you are viewing the latest verson. These may take a couple of weeks to appear as they
are done in batches. (should you not wish your name to appear
on the web then please mark this on your application form
clearly.) If you enclosed an SAE your confirmation
should be with you shortly.
Can I give my place to somebody else
if I am unable to come?
Yes, by all means. However, you will need to contact us
by phone immediately so we can amend our details at this
end.
Is this event suitable for my children?
We do allow children under 16 but only if they are accompanied
by an adult. Only you can judge if your child is capable
of walking/running 15 or 26 miles.
What if I want to retire during the
event?
We will only transport retirees from checkpoints back to
the School in Harby. You must then ensure that you have
notified the Checking In Desk that you have retired.
Can I bring my dog?
Due to complaints from landowners about them running loose,
dogs are not allowed on this event. So we would ask you
please do not bring your dog to the event. Failure to comply
with this rule may put the future of the event in jeopardy.
Will there be refreshments?
Oh, Yes! There are drinks and snacks at each checkpoint
and hot food at the finish. All this is included in the
entry fee.
What is the maximum number of competitors
and what happens when the limit is reached?
We have enforced a strict limit of 1100 participants for
this event. When the limit is reached, all new entries and
cheques will be returned. The webpage will also notify hopeful
eventers that the limit has been reached. Please check on
the webpage before sending your application if you are applying
close to 17th February which is the closing date for applications.
What is my entry number?
Entry
numbers will be allocated on the day.
Where is the closest train station?
- Grantham, Melton Mowbray, Nottingham.
Where is the closest airport?
- Nottingham East Midlands.
When will the route be posted on the
webpage?
Approximately a week before the event. As part of the course
passes through private Belvoir Estate grounds, we do not
encourage pre-route walkers. Useful map numbers will be
notified on the application form for those who like to carry
a map.
When will the results be posted out?
Initial results should hopefully be available as the day
progresses. We aim to put all the results on our website
on the day after the event. If you require a copy of the
results please either send a SAE marked 'RESULTS' or bring
one with you to the event and leave at the Certificate Desk.
I have a different question to those
listed above. Who should I contact?
